Sometimes photos aren’t enough

There is no question that when documenting a personal or family history, photos should be taken often and viewed frequently.  We’ve all heard the old saying: “A picture is worth a thousand words.”  It’s true.  The memories and emotions that come flooding back when we look at old photos are powerful.  But I recently realized it’s not enough. I had forgotten so much, and it all came flooding back when I uncovered family video and audio. Two dimensional photos, even coupled with narrative text, still don’t tell the whole story.

If pictures are worth a thousand words, video footage of loved ones must be worth a billion.

I wrote about my experiences and the resulting development of Legacy Tale’s new breed of book in a guest post on savefamilyphotos.com today. Check it out here.
